Web design using WordPress

We build websites using WordPress. Why? Because WordPress provides a solid development environment coupled with a customer friendly user experience. This means we can turn around advanced custom sites in short order and hand you a site that works the way you want it to that you can update and manage yourself with minimal training from us.

WordPress offers a complete separation between style and content. In layman’s terms this means the content on your site, whether it be text, images or video, is separated from what the site looks like. As a result changing the way your site looks and behaves does not mean having to change the content on the site. That means you retain the ability to completely redesign your site at any time without having to take it offline or embark on a lengthy “under construction” process.

Both Frugalbits and Design Shooled Kids came to us with completed designs and we built WordPress themes around them. In the end the live code on the web is almost impossible to distinguish from the graphics we were given. We pride ourselves on pushing the envelope and work under the premise that if you can design it, we can build it.

Custom WordPress Themes

We build custom WordPress themes – from scratch or on top of your favourite theme, whether it be a free one you found online or a premium theme you bought. WordPress is a highly extensible CMS (Content Management System) and there really is very little it can’t do. WordPress Tweaks, Fixes and Troubleshooting

In addition to straight up theme design we also help you upgrade, fix and sort out problems with your existing WordPress installation. Whether it be a simple upgrade, a plugin integration or theme customization we get it done and do it quickly. Common requests include:

Create a new header (usually an image) for the site
Move or redesign main menu
Fix (usually widgetize) the sidebar
Add threaded comments
Clean up broken or invalid theme code

Speaking, Coaching and Publication

One of the pillars of Pink & Yellow Media’s business philosophy is education. Whether it be one-on-one consulting, public speaking or publication on the web or in printed form we focus a lot of time and attention on sharing our knowledge with the world. Our Creative Director Morten Rand-Hendriksen is a much acclaimed speaker, author and educator. He has presented at WordCamp, MIX, Make Web Not War and various other events and also taught at BCIT and other technical schools. His blog Design Is Philosophy is a go-to source for WordPress and Expression Web tutorials and he has published two books on Microsoft Expression Web. He is also a regular contributor to the Official Microsoft Expression Newsletter and has been published in magazines such as Computer Arts.

Morten’s primary focus is WordPress, Expression Web, CSS and information design and architecture. His talks are educational and down to earth and his teaching style, though unusual, leaves the attendees with a solid understanding of the topics he covers.
